SHOPPING
Antique shops, clothing boutiques and art galleries line the streets of Ubud.
Our favourites include jeweller Jean-Francois Fichot (Jalan Suweta No. 6) for unique seashell rings festooned with jade to Brazilian tourmaline chokers and buffalo horn home wares. Macan Tidur (Monkey Forest Road) is also worth a stop for its museum-quality textiles from around the Indonesian archipelago as is Studio 22K (Jalan Raya Ubud) for the charming kocokan temple game, played on a canvas mat hand-painted with mythical turtles, fish and snakes by local artist Made Subrata.
Near Ubud, the Tegallalang area is famous for woodcarving, Mas for masks and furniture, while stone carvings can be sourced in Batubulan, a 20-minute drive from Ubud.
