This sprawling metropolis may not at first appeal to an outdoor enthusiast or nature lover. However, allow us to direct you towards Mumbai’s greenest spaces as well as its most adrenaline-pumping activities, including a few suitable for our younger guests.

Powai Lake Promenade

A short drive from The Chedi Mumbai, this charming pathway circling the British-built lake is especially popular with locals in the early morning hours. Watch for an unexpected bevy of birdlife including kingfishers, cormorants, rose-ringed parakeets and purple-rumped sunbirds. Oh and keep an eye out for the occasional crocodile known to slither out from these waters.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Take a walk on Mumbai’s wild side along this protected nature trail within an evergreen forest rightly popular with serious birders.(Distance from hotel: 90-minute drive or 21 kilometres)
Royal Bombay Yacht Club: Founded by the British in 1846 in the Colaba neighbourhood, this enjoyable anachronism now opens its bar and restaurant to the public, in addition to its fine sailing facilities.

Colaba Sailing Club

This former colonial club too boasts a rich history yet is popular in the present for its fleet of 7 “Lightning” class and 2 “Sea Bird” class boats, the largest fleet amongst all the sailing clubs in Mumbai.

Bombay Presidency Golf Club

One of the most prestigious golf clubs in Mumbai, these world-class greens are located in Chembur.

Mahalaxmi Race Course

For those who prefer to watch others work up a sweat, the ‘RWITC’ as it is referred to locally, hosts horse races on Thursdays and Sundays from November to March and on Saturdays and Sundays in April. Horse racing fans already know this venue is home to the Indian Derby held on the first Sunday of February as well as to the 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Oaks, Derby, St Leger, Poonawalla Multimillion and more.

For the Young

Recreational activities for families around Mumbai include Snow World at Phoenix Market City Mall in Kurla; KidZania which emulates the workings of a real city built-to-scale for kids to ‘run’ for themselves and Hakone, a sports and entertainment complex near The Chedi Mumbai in Powai which offers aqua pad boats, GO-karting and paintball as well as a mini train for infants.
