Sightseeing in Mumbai

A few of our favourite Mumbai sites to see may not fit into standard categories yet are well worth the effort to visit. We would not want you to miss Dhobi Ghat, a.k.a the world’s largest open-air Laundromat. That’s right, washers locally known as dhobis work in the open, doing the hand washing for Mumbai’s hotels and hospitals. Many find this still functioning anachronism rather artful, with all the freshly laundered bed linens blowing in the wind. We also recommend you watch the dabbawalas at work. This uniquely Mumbai service (which translates as ‘those who carry a box’) famously hand-delivers more than 20,000 hot, homemade lunches to offices around this sprawling financial capital with a miniscule mistake rate. For our guests more interested in glam than grub, we suggest a Bollywood Tour of the recording rooms, theatres and landscaped grounds which appear in many Bollywood films. You may even spy, or more likely hear, a future blockbuster in the works.
